Free Digital Image Editing with the GIMP

Have you ever wanted a great image editing program that wouldn’t cost you a dime? Why spend money on programs like Adobe Photoshop when you can have the same advanced capabilities for free? Good question. Instead, try using the GIMP.

GIMP is an acronym for General public license Image Manipulation Program. In other words, it is completely free software which runs on almost any operating system. With the GIMP, you have the ability to edit digital pictures using an advanced set of tools. Such operations include cropping (trimming), and scaling (re-sizing). This is only the beginning! You can create digital logos, play with digital images, and create your own graphics. And all this for free!

Disclaimer: The GIMP is an advanced program, and does carry a moderate learning curve. However once mastered, you can grab the world of digital images by the tail!

You can download the GIMP from the official website at

www.gimp.org

The official GIMP documentation can be found here and some GIMP tutorials can be found here.

If you try the GIMP and find it too difficult to master, try Google’s Picasa. This is another freebie which will allow you to play with your digital pictures. Although not as advanced as the GIMP, you will probably find it a tad easier to use.

You can download Picasa at the following URL

Cheers
